Two by-elections coming up. One in South Dublin, and the other in Dublin Central. d Shane Ross in the Seanad would be the start of improvement. Or maybe if Shane Ross got into the Dail as well.
With the Dail on knife-edge, they would be able to have a lot of influence. Cowen has to pick an EU Commisioner - and he is mulling over whether to pick Dempsey or Harney. Harney's superbowl splurge will make her ideal for even bigger junkets - though will also scupper her chances. So that leaves Dempsey vacating a seat in a constituency with officially the highest unemployment rate in the country thanks to the collapse of the building boom. Shane Ross could take Dublin South.
Who else should stand ? Bono ? better than touring ? and no seat yet free at the Vatican !
